Do I need an Ezine?

I say yes, absolutely!

Ezine (Electronic MagaZINE) or Newsletter? In my opinion both are almost the same as it is nothing more as a regularly published opinion of the author, covering a more open spectrum (Newsletter = education, promotion, special themes) or a more focussed niche (Ezine = product promotion or review, specific information to a theme the readers are focussed on, etc.).

Usually an Ezine also contains up to 5 sponsored ads for related products or services. In that way, bigger and popular Ezines can stay free but earn their income by renting the ad space. If you are looking for a theme or niche you are interested in, you can check out EzineFinder, a directory of fine Ezines and Newsletters Since 1998 . Another Ezine directory and achieve is Zinester’s Catalogue. Both offer a free platform for publishers to register their Ezine and/or readers to find and sign up to their preferred niche content.

Now these are the 10 top reasons to publish your own Ezine:

Please think a second about what you do when discussing something with friends or business partners and suddenly you become unsure about names, facts or just proof of an argument.  Right! You turn back to your computer and type a relative word, phrase or question into the search box in your toolbar.

And what is the result? Most probably you get a fully or medium correct answer already on the first page of your search engine. If not, you will refine the keywords to get still better results. And off course, somebody being an expert, providing or selling the information you are looking for, has already done a good keyword research and placed these words within their text or offer. It is for that reason that his carefully selected keywords then match your typed in questions.

As people search online for information, you easily can be an expert too and provide them what they are looking for. If you have an autoresponder and regularly publish content in form of smaller text ads, articles, reports, websites, etc., then every week – or whatever schedule you determine – provides an opportunity to work on your SEO and at the same time reinforcing your brand as an expert within your niche.

This will grow your list and you can now build a positive relationship with your list subscribers. It’s common knowledge that people like to buy from people they like. By using Ezines to contact your readers right at their home with your well crafted autoresponder content and soft promotion, you can develop a relationship of familiarity and trust. Be sure not to be too business like but also share a little private information about yourself, your hobbies, family or your company in every issue. Also anecdotes, information about events or something which specially touched you are good hooking to make your content more interesting to the readers.

Keep in touch with prospects and clients regularly. Every 5-11 days is a good sequence for an Ezine. You always have the possibility to send a special broadcast in between when you really have something extremely valuable or time sensitive for your subscribers.

Consider to develop and nourish two Ezines right from the beginning: one for prospects and one for clients, as each of them require different information. This is a great way to remind your readers of weekly specials, updates to your FAQs, or new and improved products you will be launching, in addition to articles of interest.

Drive traffic to your web site or blog. Call attention to new blog posts or other changes to your web site, with links directly to those pages. Also remind readers of your online newsletter archives. Promote special sales, maybe with discount coupon codes only for subscribers, with a link to the sales page. Use several links to your own other sites, other high traffic websites or blogs you link to.

This will turn your Ezines and newsletters into a “silent salespersons” by driving free and new traffic to your web site.  At the same time, build content on your web site too and link them to all you Ezines and published articles. Make a habit to add the headline and 3-5 lines of sample text of your Ezines and newsletters to your web site within the archive area. Create back links to other sites.

This serves a few purposes. Visitors can read an issue or two to determine if your Ezine will be of interest to them or not. This will increase sign-ups and retention. If you optimise your article placements, it will not only make your web site more attractive and content rich, which search engines like so much and will funnel new traffic to your links.

Ask your readers for feedback and make it easy for your prospects and customers to get in touch with you. Ask them to take action and comment on your articles. A great way to increase feedbacks to conduct a survey, using this free tool . Start a “Letters to the Editor” column in your Ezine to entice even more feedback which then allows you to fine tune your messages, improve your marketing and expand your product line.

Develop an information product. If you deliver your newsletter once a week and include two articles, at the end of a year you will have 104 well researched articles in your portfolio! Now pick the best-of-the-best and turn them into a bonus eBook or free report which you then offer against an opt-in at your squeeze page. Offer it as a gift to your subscribers, submit to download sites to further build your list, or sell it in PDF-format!

Grow your mailing list. Let your Ezine subscribers work for you. Be sure to encourage your readers that it is completely okay to forward your newsletter to anyone they like. Do not forget to add sign-up directions (very important!) for those who received your Ezine from viral marketing methods. A simple line saying something like “Get Your Own Copy of this Ezine”, offering a link to your squeeze or opt-in page is all it takes! You can expect an increase in conversion and sign-ups of plus 1-2 % at least.

Gather demographic data. By offering surveys, feedback forms, and niche reports, you will be able to get valuable information about your prospects and customers. Learn what makes your readers tick, how to better serve them and how to make sure they become your repeat customers. Eventually tweak your content and offers for different world regions, languages or demographic markets, etc.

Save money! All of the above benefits of publishing an Ezine are free or available at a low budget. The small investment for a first class Ezine publishing system is nothing compared to the cost of brochures, business cards, classified advertising, direct mail, pay-per-click or other means of promotion you are used from a brick and mortar business.

Because your Ezine is delivered electronically, you have practically no other cost than your working time (consider it as free right now!) and the monthly recurring fee of your Ezine hosting system (autoresponder, pro directory). With this investment, you are able to grow your list as large as you want without worrying about the expense.

The bottom line? it is a proven fact that email marketing is one of the most cost-effective promotion and list building solutions for companies, home business owners, affiliates and internet marketers, just like your. To host your Ezine I recommend a first class autoresponder like Aweber or GetResponse.
